East River
By Christina Goudis
Day by day as the water currents flow, people walk past East River with all things flowing in their life as the river does. People walk on the pavement path besides the river and the bridges above it rushing to work, rushing to an appointment or meeting. People are running along the path or walking for their workout. Mothers are walking their babies in their strollers. Friends are walking sharing laughter. People are walking sharing their story whether it be their joys or their blues. People walk alone with their thoughts, or their plans for their busy day ahead. Visitors of New York city walk along East river admiring the magnificence of the city of New York. And yet, life moves on and the river continues to flow. The currents change directions of flow during different times of day on East River, just as the people of the city’s directions and flow changes as their busy and eventful lives go on.
The East River is a tidal straight that links Upper New York Bay with Long Island Sound, in New York City. It separates different parts of New York. Manhattan from Brooklyn and Queens. Many landmarks in New York such as bridges cross over the East River. The iconic Brooklyn Bridge, which never sleeps from activity such as the city of New York itself. The Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, Queensborough Bridge, Robert F. Kennedy Bridge. The bridges stand in their grandness as the busy city people of New York cross them, as well as the keen tourists.
The day begins with the sunrise gleaming upon the river. The symbol of a new day full of possibilities. The day ends with the sun going down, the water darkening, and the glistering gleaming lights of the New York city skylines reflect upon the river which continues to flow, day in and day out. Just as our life flows, with it adventures.
